Mr. Sherman was born October 1, 1919 in the Bridgeport Community of Simpson County. He moved to the Boggan Ridge Community when he married Valeria Boggan in 1946. Mr. Sherman was a retired farmer of 62 years and a World War veteran. He expanded his farming interests when his son Rusty, joined him in the family farming operations. He and Rusty were named Farm Family of the year four different times by the Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce. He served for many years on the ASCS Committee in Simpson County, the Farmers Home Board, Pinola School Trustee, and as a trustee of a local bank. He was an active member of Rials Creek United Methodist Church, serving as Communion Steward, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Church Trustee, and other committees. He taught his family to enjoy NASCAR racing and took his grandchildren to Talladega for over 30 years. He leaves behind to mourn his passing and celebrate with joyful hearts all the wonderful memories of a Husband, Daddy, Pappaw, and Pap his wife of 62 years.
Survivors include: Valeria Boggan Sherman; daughter, Dr. Janice Sherman Brien of Magee; son & daughter-in-law, Rusty and Freda Sherman of Mendenhall; adopted nephew, Vic & Carolyn Dickerson of Brandon; seven grandchildren; Dr. Andy Brien & fiance', Courtney Martin of Jackson; Ben & Katie Brien of Faribault, MN. ; Patrick & Nicole Brien of Roswell, GA. ; Michael & Casey Brien Barnard of Pinola; Joe & Alicia Sherman Brewer of Mendenhall; Gary & Brandi Sherman Batton of Mendenhall, and Brad & Brandy Dickerson of Centerville, VA.; seven great-grandchildren: Ian Lee Batton, Aaron Russell Baton, and Kylee Jo Brewer of Mendenhall; Abbe Brien of Faribault, MN; Addie Grace Barnard and Peyton Barnard of Pinola; And Ella Kate Dickerson of Centerville, VA.
Pallbears will be his six grandsons. Honorary pallbears will be: Herman Duckworth Sr., Benny Shiyou, Billy Peacock, Joe Magee, Jimmy Welch, Dan Tullos, Jack Bryan, and Sen. Perry Lee.
