William was one the many English citizens, taken from their families, and sent to Australia as convicts for minor infractions. He arrived in Western Australia on the Pyrennees at the age of 26 in 1853 settling in York, Western Australia. He married an 'Irish Needlewoman', Mary Ryan in 1855 and they had 12 children. They farmed at Grass Valley, WA and the farm is still 'in the family'. William died a respected member of society. Bought many acres of land in the Avon Valley.
