Born John Shmigelski, he changed his name in 1940.

On December 6, 1963 at the Winnipeg General Hospital, Mr. John Smiley, aged 61 years, beloved husband of Elizabeth Smiley of 25 Buckingham Rd., Charleswood.

Prayers will be said at 9 p.m. Sunday in Zawidoski Funeral Chapel, Selkirk at Parr. Requiem High Mass will be sung 9.30 a.m. Monday in St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, Stella and McGregor St., Msgr. W. Kushner will officiate followed by interment in All Saints' Cemetery.

Born in Komarno, Manitoba, Mr. Smiley had resided in Winnipeg for the past 47 years and was the owner of Smiley's lunch for 4 years. Besides his wife Elizabeth he is survived by 1 son, Theodore of Red Deer, Alberta; 1 daughter, Mrs. Kazimir (Eleanor) Chop of Winnipeg; his mother, Mrs. A. Bozyk of St. James, Man.; 4 sisters, Mrs. F. Kwasnicki, Mrs. J. Watowich, both of East Kildonan, Mrs. M. Russin of St. James, Mrs. J. Smotryaki of Komarno, Man. and 7 grandchildren.
