Meridian - Mr. Porter passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, December 07, 2017.
He was born on January 28, 1926 in Meridian, Mississippi to Thomas Mark and Mary Miller Porter.
He graduated from Meridian High School in 1944 and Tulane University in 1948. He also obtained a degree from Harvard Business School. He served in the United States Navy where he met his wife of 61 years, Frances Carroll Porter. He continued to serve his country in the United States Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Major. He worked for F.W. Williams State Agency his entire career, where he retired as President of the agency.
He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Burnside and her husband, Andy, of Collinsville, Mississippi; his son, Charles Porter and his wife, Kathy, of Ridgeland, Mississippi; his grandchildren, Jana Porter of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Michael Walters of New London, Connecticut, Megan Walters of Madison, Mississippi and Mark Porter, III of Mobile, Alabama; and his special friend, Syble Majure.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Carroll Porter; his son, Mark M. Porter, Jr.; and parents, Thomas Mark and Mary Miller Porter.
Mark was an avid and accomplished golfer, where he played many rounds at Northwood Country Club.
After a private family burial, a celebration of life gathering will be held for Mr. Mark Porter at his home on December 10, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 o'clock. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
