Mark Maurice Porter Jr.
ATLAS — Mark Maurice Porter Jr., 55, died unexpectedly Dec. 30, 2013, at his home.
Born in Meridian, Miss., Dec. 1, 1958, he was a son of Mark Maurice Porter, of Meridian, Miss., and the late Frances Carroll Porter.
He attended high school at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lamar School in Meridian, Miss. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1981 and was a member and president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Mark worked for a number of years in the insurance industry.
He was a member of the St. Francis Home Association of Shamokin and the Anthracite Citizens Theatre Group.
He thoroughly enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his father, Mr. Porter is survived by a son, Mark Maurice Porter III, of Mobile, Ala.; his partner, Ronnie Scicchitano, of Atlas; a sister, Maureen Burnside and husband, Andy, of Meridian, Miss.; a brother, Charles Francis Porter and wife, Kathy, of Jackson, Miss.; two nieces, Jana Porter, of Orange Beach, Ala., and Meagan Walters, of Meridian, Miss.; and a nephew, Michael Walters, of Meridian, Miss.
A funeral service will be held in Mississippi at a future date at the convenience of the family. Joseph J. Stutz Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, with Supervisor Joseph J. Stutz III is in charge of the arrangements. The guestbook can be signed at www.stutzfuneralhome.com.
