Jan._.-Philip Pendleton Cooke, an accomplished poet, of Clark Co. Va.

New-York Daily Tribune January 1, 1851

Son of John R. and Maria Pendleton Cooke. Graduate of Princeton University. Author of "Florence Vane" and published early on in the Southern Literary Messenger, edited by Edgar Allen Poe. Married Willianne Corbin Tayloe Burwell, daughter of William Burwell. This marriage brought to him the "Vineyard" estate. Died of pneumonia after riding through the Shenandoah on a hunting excursion.
