JANE BARTON, age 95, resident of Shelby, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Born February 5, 1920 in Norwalk, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Julia (Linder) Schild. A 1938 graduate of Norwalk High School, she began her career as a bookkeeper with Martin Motors in Norwalk. Upon moving to Shelby she spent many years at home raising her children. She returned to work as a bookkeeper for several years at the First Lutheran Church and, later, worked for eight years as chief bookkeeper at Pioneer Joint Vocational School.

Jane was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school and was involved in many other church activities. A strong Christian woman, she began each day reading her Bible to her children at the breakfast table. She always desired to grow in her own personal faith, even in her last days. She served as a 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed supporting her kids in their activities. She, along with her husband, Angus, was an active member of the Shelby Cloverleaf Square Dancers for 20 years. A very talented quilter, she used her skills to provide quilts for her family as well as so many who had a need. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, baking, traveling and gardening.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Angus Barton, whom she married May 24, 1952; her children, Kenneth (Nancy) Barton of Powell and Nancy (Ben) Abbott of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Hammond, Ashley Barton (fiance, Brian Flowers) and Andy Barton, all of Columbus; her sister, Helen Albright of Willard and brother, Lewis (Mary Ann) Schild of Norwalk; four nieces and one nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Schild of Norwalk.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Shelby. Rev. Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery.
