George (full name John George) was born in Hussenbach, Saratov, Russia. His headstone shows his year of birth as 1858, but a membership document for the Lutheran Church in Hussenbach shows May 15, 1859. He married Anna Elizabeth Fuchs. They bought an old house in Hussenbach, Russia and farmed there. Crops were poor, and they had to butcher their three milk cows one after another to feed their family. There was no bread, and no potatoes, and the family had to live just on meat for the whole winter. George and Anna Elizabeth had one son and six daughters. Anna Elizabeth passed away in 1897, giving birth to their seventh child. Their children were: Anna Elizabeth (Conrad Pister) b. 1884, Johann Jacob, Elizabeth, Margaretha Elizabeth (Waschenfelder) b. 1892, Maria Elizabeth b. 1893, Dorothea Elizabeth, and Catharina (b. and d. 1897).

George then married a widow, Katherine Elizabeth Wenig (nee Schilling), who had a daughter (Christine) from her first marriage. He rented some land for 1/2 of the crop. Conditions improved, the crops were much better, and by 1907 he was fairly well off.

In 1911 or 1912 George and Katherine Elizabeth moved with their family to the Rhein, SK area. They lived with George's son John Jacob and his wife Anna Margaretha (nee Starger). John Jacob had come to Canada with his sister Elizabeth in 1907. About a year later George and Katherine Elizabeth moved to their own place and started farming on their own.

George and Katherine Elizabeth had at least 3 children together: Henry (b. 1900), George Jacob (m. Leah Burkard), and Samuel (b. about 1911).
