Worked as a women's wear purchaser for various department and clothing stores, throughout the USA. She later worked as an insurance underwriter for Metropolitan Life. Belonged to National Association of Life Underwriters, Springfield chapter.

Elizabeth Axel, known familiarly as "Betty," was a charter member of Parkway Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

She belonged half a century to the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as president of Zonta International, Springfield chapter. She volunteered with Barton Stone Volunteer Association.

Elizabeth Axel passed away 9 February 2014 at a care center in Jacksonville Illinois. Both parents; one sister, and one brother, predeceased her.
