Back:

Captain Randolph Company C, 2nd Regiment Virginia Vol. Stonewall Brigade; Was Killed in the act of leading his Company into the first charge at the battle of Belle Grove, Frederick County, October 19, 1864 in the 25th year of his age.

Fallest thou son of my future hope shall O never see thee more. When others hear of their Sons Shall I never hear of thee. The battle shall be fought without thee.
The valiant must fall in their day and be no more known on their hills.

But the night dew that falls tho in silence weeps, shall brighten with verdure the grave where he sleeps, and the tear that we shed tho in secret it rolls, shall long keep his memory green in our souls.

"Farewell then, for a while farewell Child of my heart it cannot be that long we dwell, Thus torn apart, Times shadows like the shuttle flee and dark be were life's night may be, Beyond the grave I'll meet with thee, "My own dear boy".
