Rodney L. Kercheval, age 52, of Kirklin, Indiana, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 11, 1965 in Frankfort, Indiana, he was the son of the late James Everett and Dorothy Ann (Lester) Kercheval.
Rodney grew up in Kirklin and was a 1984 graduate of Clinton Central High School.
Not too long after graduation, Rodney moved to Maine and would work as an automotive technician with AJ Cole and Sons, of Bangor, Maine, doing body work, restorations, painting and detail work. He later moved back to Indiana to be closer to his family. Once he was settled back home he would hire on with the Town of Kirklin, working for many years with the Maintenance Dept. He would later go to work for the maintenance department for Westfield School System, as well as working for GHS, Inc. of Sheridan as an electrical engineer.
He also worked for a short time with SM&P, locating pipelines and underground utilities. His true calling however, came as a self employed general contractor. Rodney's talents, creativity and passion definitely came to the forefront during the last major project that he managed; the home that he and Chris would share. Rodney designed the blueprints and managed the construction, but he would do all of the interior woodwork and cabinetry himself.
He was a 20 year member of the Kirklin Post 301 Sons of the American Legion. Rodney grew up in the Kirklin Wesleyan Church but later in life began attending the Kirklin Church of God.
Rodney was a diehard NASCAR fan and a collector of anything NASCAR related. He also loved his Indianapolis Colts.
Rodney is survived by his very loving companion, Chris Iddings of Frankfort; 2 brothers, Bruce A. (Judy) Kercheval of Monticello, and his twin brother Roger L. Kercheval of Kirklin; 3 sisters, Brenda D. (David) Kehr of Jacksonville, Florida, Melinda D. (Kenny) Jobe of Kirklin and Melissa J. (Bob) Gilhousen of Kirklin; his best friend from his years in Maine, Jerry McAlpine; 2 aunts, Wanda and Leesa Kercheval; and 1 uncle, Paul Kercheval; and many nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly. Rodney was also very passionate about animals and is survived by his canine best friends, Atticus and Gertie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry James Kercheval; brother in law, Dennis Craig Gilhousen; paternal grandparents, Everett and Lucille Kercheval; maternal grandparents, Arvel and Juanita Lester;, maternal uncles, Bobby, Perry and Ronald Lester; paternal aunts, Mary Kercheval Carlile and Rebecca Kercheval; and paternal uncles, Morris and David Kercheval.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th Street, Sheridan, Indiana, with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Rodney's cousin, pastor Karl Neil Kercheval will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin.
