Cora Merle Lindsay Whitmore Ward, age 94, passed away at home Feb. 16, 2000.

She was born Oct. 18, 1905, in Park City, Utah, the third of eight daughters born to Robert Stacy and Alice Edwards Lindsay. She grew up in Midvale, Utah.

She married James Montgomery Whitmore of Midvale in 1926 in the Salt Lake Temple. James passed away in March 1962.

Cora married Thomas Walker Ward of Sandy in 1985. He passed away in April 1987.

Cora was a graduate of Jordan High School and played the violin in the school orchestra and in various functions for many years thereafter. She enjoyed playing her violin until she was past 90 and continued to play the piano until recently. She was an active member of the LDS Church serving for many years as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples. She served a mission to the Alaska Canadian Mission and also as a Stake Missionary. She served in many positions in the Church including teacher and music leader in Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society and was on the Mt. Jordan Stake Sunday School Board for many years. She was a Visiting Teacher for 73 years. Cora belonged to the first Librarian Round Table of the General Sunday School. She was a charter member of the Granite Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and served as an officer in the Far South Salt Lake County Company for many years, as well as in the Granite DUP Camp.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters: Robert S. (Phyllis) Whitmore of Salt Lake City; Wanda (Leonard) Rowley of North Ogden; Keith L. (Alice) Whitmore of Sandy; Merle (Stephen) Sudbury of Sandy; 32 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, LaVoy E. (Reveau) Whitmore of Sandy, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her parents and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Bell Canyon Ward Chapel, 9575 S. 3100 E., Sandy (Granite), Utah. Friends and family may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, and at the ward chapel from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Midvale City Cemetery.
