Mr. Thomasson was born in Warfield, VA, but had been a resident of Durham for most of his life. He served in the United States Navy as a gunners mate Petty Officer on PT boats during WWII. He was a security officer with Monsanto Corp. for 17 years prior to retirement. Since that time, he worked mornings at the Edge Program at Eno Valley School and was the day proprietor with Grouse Ridge Trees.
Mr. Thomasson worked for several years with the Red Shield Boys Club and was a member of Gerofit at the VA Medical Center. He was fondly known by his friends and loved ones as 'Beanie' and 'Papa T.'
A funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM at Grove Park Chapel by Mr. Albert Long and Pastor Dale Brooks. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel A. Thomasson; one son, Randy Thomasson, and daughter-in-law, Judy, of Durham; two daughters, Rhonda Penny, and son-in-law, Melvin, of Zebulon, and Renea Hunnings, and son-in-law, Robert, of Durham; two sisters, Miss Dorothy Thomasson and Mrs. Margaret Collier, both of Youngsville; and six grandchildren, Lisa Wilson, Jessica Thomasson, Emilee Thomasson, Luke Thomasson, Kyle Hunnings and Kenzie Hunnings.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Pittsboro Christian Village, PO Box 518, Pittsboro NC 27312 or to Albert Long/Happenings Inc., PO Box 1126, Durham NC 27702.
