Martha Aseneth Graham Minteer was Born in Lisbon, Columbiana County ,Ohio to Adolphus S. Graham and Grace (Weitzel) Graham. She was given her middle name in memory of her Grandmother Phobe Aseneth (Stevenson) Weitzell. At the time of her birth a name had not been picked out for her. Her birth certificate has a supplement that added her name later.

The "Adolphus Graham" family moved after 1920 to Fenelton, Clearfield Township, Butler Co.Pennsylvania and Tennet Farmed for a Man with the last name Graham (The Employer was not related to the family). they lived on a beautiful white two story farm house owned by their employer.
Please note: This farm house was still occupied and standing in the early 1970's.

Martha attended Sheridan School in Clearfield Township, Butler Co. Pa.. This was a one room schoolhouse typical for that time period . She went to the one room school house first through 8th grade and made excellent grades . the nearest high school was so far away that Martha would have had to be boarded in a home in that town. Sadly her parents could not afford the room and boarding costs. Her favorite Teacher Ms. Bessie Rodgers talked to Martha's parents and it was agreed that although Martha had completed the 8th grade she was to come back to the school again for an additional year. This dedicated teacher work with her to give her additional learning in the absence of her being able to attend high school. Martha truly never forgot Ms. Rodgers and fondly talked about her all through her life.

Martha Aseneth Graham married Arthur Henry Minteer on June 14th, 1937 in Worthington, PA. This was the brides 19th birthday. The groom was 23 years of age. Martha was the daughter of Adolphus S. Graham and Grace Weitzel Graham who at the time resided in Fenelton , Clearfield Township, Butler Co. PA. They were introduced to each other by her brother Warren and Arthur's sister Anna who were dating and later married. Arthur and Martha were married by Dr./Rev. Louise D. Riddell, at the Butler Church of Christ that Martha had attended since childhood. On the 1940 census for Fenelton , PA., She and Arthur were shown to be living with her parents Adolphus S. Graham and Grace Weitzel Graham.

In 1941 she and her husband Arthur moved to Tennessee as he was working on various jobs for Harrison Construction Company.

In 1942 she and Arthur moved to Ootlewa, TN. were Arthur worked for TVA at the Chicamagua Dam site on the outskirts of Chattanooga , Tn. She and Arthur did not like that area. In 1943 jobs opened up in the newly formed town of Oak ridge , TN. Here, her Husband, Arthur worked on excavation and building of the site that was part of the Manhattan project.

After the war in 1945 they then moved to ALCOA, TN. Here, her Husband started his own excavation business. During this she attended a Beautician School in Knoxville, TN. Unfortunately during this time period miscarriage. She also had a bad car wreck that injured her back and ended her Beautician schooling.

In 1957 Martha and her husband Arthur Minteer , to ALCOA's sister city of Maryville , TN. Here Arthur and she purchased a home with four and a half acres of land. Later in the 1960's purchased an additional five acres of property adjoining their land. This was on Wildwood Rd. on the "Mitchell Hollow" side of Maryville. The original home still exists but there is a small subdivision on the land and what was the family driveway is now a road.

In April 1959 she and her husband adopted their first child a daughter Named Myra And in March of 1961 they adopted their son Marvin Lee "Buddy"Minteer.

Martha faithfully attended the Maryville "Church of Christ" for most of her life. She would often go to "Quilting Bee's" that the church ladies had, to sew quilts for the "needy" in the community. Martha loved music and played the piano. In her youth. She had also learned to play the violin. Martha kept her hair perfectly coiffed. She always loved quality clothes and dressed quite elegantly. In her youth she enjoyed books by Pearl S. Buck and Louise Lamour. She greatly enjoyed crafts and sewing also.

Martha had a secret "Bread and Butter" pickle recipe she had inherited from her mother. That was simply the best pickles anyone could ever taste . In the early sixties every summer she and her mother Grace conspired to can these delicious morsels for family and friends.

Once her children were grown Martha worked as a private sitter in homes of the elderly. She later became a Certified Activity Assistant around the age of 59 years at a local Nursing Home. Martha greatly enjoyed and was proud of her work with the elderly.

In 1994 The family moved with their son Marvin moved back home to Butler, Pa. They had a home at N. 6th street in Butler, Butler Co. PA . Martha resided there until the death of her son Marvin in Feb. 2000. Martha relocated to Huntsville Alabama where her daughter, her husband, two grandchildren lived. She lived for three months with her daughter and family. she then lived in a Senior Apartment on Venona , Ave. in Huntsville , Al. for nine months. In 2001, Martha's health began to decline and she lived in a local nursing home until her death. Her daughter worked as a Registered Nurse at this Nursing Home at that time.

Martha grieved the loss of her son and survived him by three years. Her mind was really sharp up till her death. She died in Huntsville, AL.in 2003 of a possible Pulmonary embolism but her death certificate states Possible M.I. She went quickly and did not regain consciousness. She is survived by her daughter and her five daughters and grandson. Martha is greatly missed by her friends and family.
