Asa was born circa 1819 the son of John Kinney and Phebe Tompkins, and named after his Uncle . He married Mary Hotham circa 1847. He left the Greenfield area and followed his older brother Edmund/Edward Kinney to the Kent Parish area, making his own home in the Moose Mt. section, and soon to be joined as a neighbor by his new brother in law Kingman Oakes and his 2nd wife Charity Hotham Kinney Oakes.

Asa and Mary had 11 known children.
Asa's death/obit is found in Johnson's newspaper archives: D. Holmesville (Carleton Co.) 16th Apr 1881, Asa Kinney Age 62. Left a wife and large family. Funeral preached by Rev. M.P. Orser.

He like so many of the early settlers of the greater Holmesville region is interred in the Buckley without benefit of a permanent marker.
