Joseph Kinney was the 9th child and 5th and last son of record born to John Kinney and Phebe Tompkins. His birth year listed is taken from the age given in the 1881 census. His answer in the 1861 census would place him at a 1826 birth year, but that would place him in too tight a timeline squeeze between his sisters Esther and Deborah and leave too long an open time span without pregnancies for their mother Phebe between last brother Asa born in circa 1819 and sister Esther in 1825.

Joseph's first child was James Allen Kinney born 5 Jan 1851, not 1853 as on his death record. James' mother was Charlotte "Lottie" Killcollins. James Allen Kinney was most likely named after his grandfather James A. Killcollins. This parental record is found on James Allen Kinney's 2nd marriage record. James Allen Kinney is found as a Killcollins in the 1851 census living with his mother Charlotte who was still living with some of her siblings and her parents James A. Killcollins and Ann Merithew. Joseph Kinney and Charlotte Killcollins never married, Charlotte married for her 1st of 3 husbands, Frederick Giggie circa 1852, and their first child Edward was born circa 1853.

Joseph Kinney married circa 1851 Mary Green, who according to the info provided on her D.C. was the daughter of Jonathan Green and Sarah Brooks, and both listed as being born in NB. It is always a possibility that this Sarah's real surname could have also been Estabrooks.

Joseph and Mary had 7 children of record, all born in Greenfield, 6 sons and one daughter as follows:
(1) Charles Randolph Kinney, B Jun 1852-D 22Jul 1919 in Limestone ME. Married Adelaide Maskell, daughter of John Maskell and Naomi Holmes.
(2) Ransford J. Kinney, B circa 1855. No further record after the 1881 census.
(3) Joshua Kinney B 1 Feb 1858-D 17 Nov 1916 in Ashland ME. Married his 1st Cousin once removed Leticia Budrow, daughter of Joseph Budrow and Mary Jane O'Neal.
(4) Serena Elizabeth Kinney, B 28 Feb 1861-D 2 Apr 1896 in Mars Hill ME. Married George "Matthew" Hartsgrove, son of Benjamin Hargrove (original spelling) and Salome Holmes.
(5) Henry A. Kinney, B Mar 1863-D 17 Mar 1938 in Mars Hill ME. Married Annie Mae Joslyn, daughter of William Nelson Joslyn and Mary Jane Bubar.
(6) Andrew "Hood" Kinney, B Jun 1866-D 11 May 1931 in Mars Hill ME. Married Sarah A. "Sadie" Corey, daughter of Edward Smith Corey and Margaret Ann Finnemore.
(7) Joseph "Basil"Kinney, B Jul 1870 (according to his answer in the 1900 Census), D Sep 1944 in Blaine/Mars Hill. Married Marion Elizabeth "Lizzie" Joslyn, daughter of William Nelson Joslyn and Mary Jane Bubar.

All of Joseph and Mary Kinney's children note in their future census answers that they emigrated to Maine in the mid to late 1880's. Joseph and Mary are not found in any further census citations after the 1881 census. I feel it is very probable that they both emigrated in the mid 1880's with their children to the Mars Hill area of Maine. They would have been in their mid 60's and mid 50's respectively at that point in time. As the 1890 US census is lost we can't use that as a reference, and so far only Mary's death record has been posted and it was in Bridgewater ME. Interment location for both is likely together and in Aroostook County ME. However it's possible that if Joseph died while they still lived in Greenfield, he would most certainly be in the Pioneer with his parents and other family.
