Bernadette C. Madson, age 75, formerly of St. Nazianz, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, 2006, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.

She was born Oct. 14, 1931, in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Meyer) Schad. She married Ervin Madson on Sept. 7, 1957, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Bernadette was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and raising her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband: Ervin Madson, St. Nazianz; three daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Charlie Geiser, Marlene and Mike Zutz, Amy and Steve Recore, one son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Renee Madson, all of rural St. Nazianz; nine grandchildren: Wendy (Scott) Schneider, Isaac Loritz, Eric Zutz, Brady Zutz, Whitney Zutz, Austin Recore, Brandon Recore, Nicole Madson, Emily Madson; one brother: Alois Schad, St. Nazianz; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Josephine and Ed Schaefer, School Hill; Glenroy Franzen, Kiel; four sisters-in-law: Arlene Schad, Kiel; Janice Schad, Kiel; Helen Schad, rural Kiel; Delores Schad, Chilton; mother-in-law: Margaret Madson, Manitowoc; and three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Arlene Schleh, St. Nazianz; Marge and Charles Jahncke, Milwaukee; and LouAnn and Gilbert Neumeyer, Sheboygan; and a special niece: Dorothy (Joseph) Prokop. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by six brothers: Norman, Frank, Roman, Alfred, Bernard and Raymond Schad; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Gertrude and Frank Litz; Mary and Ken Schmitz; Anita Franzen; two sisters-in-law: Lillian and Dorothy Schad; father-in-law: Louis Madson; and two brothers-in-law: Gerald and Roman Schleh.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gregory Coulthard, with burial to follow at St. Gregory Church Cemetery, St. Nazianz. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, from 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, until the time of Mass at 1 p.m.

The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Bernie's family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Manitowoc Health Care Center for the wonderful care given to her. A special thank you also goes to her physician, Dr. Theobald.
