She was a member of the East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Middlesboro High School and the University of Tennessee. She retired after 27 years of teaching in the Knoxville School System due to failing health.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by:
Sisters: Edna Branham, Mildred Miller and Ruby Van Beber,
Brothers: Tommy, John Roger and Jim Massengill.
She is survived by the following members of her family:
Her husband of 62 years: Everett Mays
Sisters: Thelma (Don) Williams, Helen Harris and Suzi (James) Pursifull
Brothers: C.A. "Buddy" (Eula) Massengill and Harold "Doc" (Anesia) Massengill
A special niece: Noreen Rodriguez
And a host of other nieces and nephews.
