Mary Ann Bates Sanders, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 4, 2013.


Daughter of Marcus Erwin Bates (1909–1964) and Esther Carlington Brown Bates (1908–1988); wife of James Walton Sanders Sr (1938–1989), her high school sweetheart.


Spent 38 years as an employee of JPS Textile Group as a buyer and retired in 2001; was a member of Parisview Baptist Church in Greenville, SC, where she enjoyed Ansel's Sunday School Class and the love of a wonderful congregation of believers.


Survived by daughters, Charlene Sanders and Lydia Poole (Greg); son, James Sanders, Jr. (Wendy); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Jacqueline McIntyre.


Also preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Lynn Sanders; grandson, Joseph Allyn Sanders; sister, Leticia "Tish" Parrish; and brothers, Marcus Bates, Jr. and Billy G. Bates.


Visitation was held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Parisview Baptist Church.


Memorial service immediately followed.
