Daniel James Hassink was one of 13 children born to Dutch immigrant parents Herm (later called Hiram) and Johanna "Anna" Rosina (Hulleman) Hassink. His family lived first in Warrensville, but were settled in the Cleveland area by the time Daniel was ten years old. Daniel married Dorothy Althea Hassink of Akron, Ohio on June 23, 1923 in Summit County Ohio, and the couple had three children--Daniel William Hassink (1926-2004), Miriam Jean Hassink (1928-2002), and Ruth Althea Hassink (1930-2013). After his wife Dorothy died, Daniel James Hassink went to live with his youngest daughter's family in New Jersey, later moving with them to Dallas, TX. In 1980 he moved to the Linn Manor Care Facility in Marion, IA, where he resided until his death.
