Carl E. Tanneberger, 88, a 24-year resident of Fox Lake, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

He was born December 11, 1928, in Searcy, Arkansas, to the late Carl O. and Myron (nee Pleggy) Tanneberger. Carl was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army.

A machinist, who also built and remodeled homes, he was an expert woodworker who crafted numerous pieces of fine furniture and clocks. Carl was very generous with his time and talents and had many friends, including the Martinez Family of Fox Lake. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and loved fishing with his grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Peggy" (nee Gihl) Tanneberger, whom he married in July of 1950; daughters, Susan (Albert) Jehlicka and Carla (George) Pugh, Jr.; grandchildren, Thomas (Blanca) Jehlicka, Matthew Jehlicka, Shannon (Karl) Woodham; and George (Amber Nicholson) Pugh, III; great-grandchildren, Kylee, K.J., and Autumn; brother, Jerry (Trudy) Tanneberger; and sisters, Jane (the late John) Busellato and Nancy (Leonard) Fudala.

The visitation will be Sunday, August 13, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Private entombment will be in the Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Arlington Heights.
