Revolutionary War Officer. A native of Connecticut he served as a Colonel for the United States during the Revolutionary War. He had moved to New Jersey by the time of the War for American Independence and commanded "Spencer's Regiment" in the Continental Army in 1777. He served in that capactiy until the end of the war and then became a Colonel in the New Jersey Militia. Spencer later emigrated to Ohio and settled in the Columbia region of southeastern Hamilton County on land that was granted to him as part of his pension. He died from the effects of age when he was 74 years old. He was initially buried in the Wesley Chapel Burial Grounds and was later removed to Spring Grove Cemetery on August 19, 1865.
