Nathaniel Ordway, 21, United States Marine, passed away serving his country August 5, 2017. Born February 8, 1996 in Wichita, KS. Nathan graduated from Wichita Heights High School in 2014 during which time he was an ROTC member. After graduation, Nathan followed his calling and enlisted in the Marines. While serving he received the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He loved riding motorcycles, was a black belt in Taekwondo, and enjoyed building things with his hands. Nathan was a gentle, kind and caring man who will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Nathaniel was preceded by grandparents, Frank and Susan Ordway; and uncle, Mike Ordway. He is survived by parents, 2 sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles, nephew, Godmother, and numerous cousins and friends we call family.

Two Marine aviators and an infantryman were killed when an MV-22 Osprey went down Aug. 5 into the waters off the coast of Shoalwater Bay, Queensland, Australia.
The three Marines lost in the tragedy were identified:
1st Lt. Benjamin Cross, 26, of Oxford, Maine; Cpl. Nathaniel Ordway, 21, of Sedgwick, Kansas; and Pfc. Ruben Velasco, 19, of Los Angeles. Cross and Ordway were both assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 out of Futenma, Japan; Velasco was a member of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, out of Camp Pendleton, California.

Both units were assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is forward deployed to the Pacific and was near Australia for the multinational training exercise Talisman Saber.
