Maurice George Burton
1924-2017
Our hero has taken his last ride. Maurice George Burton passed away June 6, 2017 in his home in the arms of his long-time mate Bonnie Wilson. He was born on March 7, 1924 to George and LaVer in Salt Lake City. He lived his whole life in the Salt Lake Valley.
He served his country as a merchant marine in World War II. He was the oldest son of 14 children. He met and married the love of his life, Bobbie Couch. They had three children. After Bobbie passed he met and married Vernalee and adopted her four children. Maurice loved life and was always on the go. He hunted, fished, bicycled, danced, and he went on many trips in his motorhome.
His passion was motorcycles. He started racing in his twenties. He did hill climb, track racing, and desert race. His last race was when he was 72. He was a true winner.
Our dad, brother, grandfather, and friend will be missed.
The family would like to thank Bonnie Wilson for her loving care, Intermountain Hospice and Health Care, the VA for their care and support, his heart and lung doctors, and all his friends in his motorhome club.
Maurice is survived by Bonnie Wilson; Sons Randy Burton, Blaine Burton and Kevin Burton; Daughters Jodey Greninger (Gordon), Ilene Beglarian, and Janet Burt (Steve). He is preceded in death by his son Michael, his two wives, and six siblings.
Maurice's funeral service will be held Monday, June 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary. A viewing will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday, both at the same location.
