Leona D. Gordon, 78, of St. Thomas, died July 21, 2017 surrounded by her husband and family at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born September 11, 1938 at Mercersburg, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Blanche Sweeny Starliper.
Early in her life, Leona was employed at Waynesboro Shoe Factory. She farmed with her husband and later worked at Edwards Orchards. She was last employed at Wilson College.
She loved flowers and animals, especially her dogs, Princess, Lucy Lue, and Amos.
Surviving family include her husband of 51 years, Charles E. Gordon, Sr. Two daughters, Roxane (Roy) Hockenberry and Katrina (Gary) Pettner both of Chambersburg, two sons, Charles E. (Pam) Gordon, Jr. of Hagerstown, David E. Gordon of St. Thomas, a step daughter, Anita (Ivan) Barnsley of Frederick, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy Hayes of Orlando, Cecil Angle of Waynesboro, and Martha Daley of Mercersburg. Leona was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly D. McDonald, four brothers, Junior, Harry, Earl, and Walter Starliper, and three sisters, Hazel Mellott, Catherine Snider, and Audrey Shaffer.
Funeral services will be held July 26, 2017 at 1:00 PM from Greencastle Church of God with Pastor Floyd E. Myers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Viewing 6 to 9 PM Tuesday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
