MERCERSBURG - Earl C. "Skinny" Starliper, 75, of 12485 Buchanan Trail West, died Wednesday morning, June 4, 2003, at home following an extended illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1927, in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Jesse and Blanche Yeager Sweeney Starliper.

He was a member of Church of God, Greencastle.

As a young man, he was a farmer. He later worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, and the former Loewengart Co., Mercersburg.

For 10 years, he owned and operated Earl's Sunoco, Mercersburg, and for the past 28 years he was a self-employed excavator.

A social member of Clarence Armstrong Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6241, Mercersburg, he was interested in hunting, fishing and woodcrafts.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. "Patsy" Strayer Starliper, whom he married Feb. 2, 1969 five sisters, Dorothy Hays of Orlando, Fla., Audrey Shaffer and Martha Daley, both of Mercersburg, Leona Gordon of St. Thomas and Cecile Angle of Smithsburg, Md. a brother, Walter of Mercersburg nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Robinson, Katherine Snyder and Evelyn Starliper and three brothers, Harry, Junior and Charlie.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Church of God of Greencastle, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, with the Rev. Floyd E. Myers officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Park Ave., and one hour before the service Saturday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Church of God of Greencastle, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle 17225.
