Helen M. Batten, 74, of Urbandale Health Care Center, 4614 N.W. 84th St., Urbandale, died of complications of a stroke Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Church in Melrose, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery there.
Mrs. Batten was born in Melrose and had lived in Chicago, Albia and Melrose before moving to the care center. She had worked for the Melrose Post Office and was a member of her church's Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Leon of Des Moines and Martina Batten-Hoffman of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; two sons, Thomas of Federal Way, Wash., and Robert of Albia; a brother, Jack Ciska of Gulfport, Miss.; a sister, Mary McGrath of Albia; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Gilbert Funeral Home in Albia.
