Leo Ciska dies today

Leo (Red) Ciska, 60, of 1419 South Garfield, Burlington, died suddenly this morning at the Memorial Hospital there. He was a former resident of Melrose.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church in Melrose. The Rev. Eugene Hoenig will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. The wake service will be held at the Humeston Funeral home Thursday at 8 p.m.

Mr. Ciska was born Feb. 23, 1914 in Melrose, the son of Martin and Catherine Murray Ciska. He married Barbara Dewey in 1936 in Des Moines. He was employed by the Burlington Railroad.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Ketchum, Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Barbara McCollum of Burlington, and Sandra at home; one brother, Jack Ciska of Melrose; three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Bilson, Mrs. Helen Batten, and Mrs. Mary McGrath, all of Melrose, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
