William arrived with his folks and siblings from England some time between 1851 & 1858. He became head of the family when his father suddenly died in 1863.
Shortly after , he married his first wife, Mary Farncomb who bore him 4 children. He farmed in Perth County, but moved to Kent County by the time his daughter, Emma, was born.
Remarried to Margaret Smith in late 1874, they had five children together.
When William died from tuberculosis, he left Margaret to raise several young children.
