Robert Russell Cowan Jr., 92, of Marysville, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He was born January 12, 1925 in Deckerville to the late Robert R. Sr. and Mary Ann Cowan. He married Faye E. Wehner on December 10, 1949 in St. John’s United Church of Christ, Port Huron.

Mr. Cowan served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his service, he was employed with Ford Motor Company until his retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. Charles Schoor Post 796 and the Charles A. Hammond American Legion Post 8 where he provided transportation for veterans for decades. When his children were younger, he supported their sports activities by coaching their hockey and flag football teams.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Faye; five children, Barb Sharp, Tim (Vicky) Cowan, Dinah (John) Brown, Colleen (Jeff) Dodson, and Kelly Cowan; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons, Robert P. Cowan and Brian R. Cowan; grandson, Scott E. Dodson; and sisters, Lorraine McCardle, Rosetta Howard, Roberta Mucha, Beulah Durance, and Mary Jo Durst.

Private family services with Military Honors conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard have been held at Allied Veterans Cemetery Columbarium.
