Dr. Nelson was born April 29, 1891, in Calhoun County, a son of the late Theodore McFadden and Catherine Davis Nelson. He was a graduate of Newberry College and a graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina, class of 1915.
During World War Ihe served in the Army and was stationed in France. After being discharged from the Army, Dr. Nelson resumed his practice in Columbia and continued until his death.
He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church, the Columbia Medical Society, the South Carolina Medical Association, Richland Lodge No. 39, A.F.M. and the American Legion.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mable Bates Nelson; a son, Vernon H. Nelson; two grandchildren, Larry Nelson and Bonnie Nelson , both of Columbia; three brothers, Ellison C. Nelson and Claude S. Nelson of Charleston and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Dunbar Funeral Home at 4 p. m. today, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Feltham S. James D. D. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
