Mrs. Nelson was born in Norway, S. C., the daughter of the late John and Mary Gibson Bates. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a number of sisters and brothers including Mrs. Flossie Campbell of Neptune, Fla.
Funeral will be 5 p. m. Wednesday in Elmwood Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Peden Gene Curry, D. D. and the Rev. Howard G. Bowles.
Surviving are a son, Vernon Nelson; Columbia, six sisters Mrs. W. R. Campbell, Neptune Beach, Fla., Mrs. A. T. Kelley, Coral Gables, Fla., Mrs. Roy Hart, Charleston, Mrs. Campbell Boineau, Mrs. Pat Johnson, and Mrs. T. E. Jenkins all of Columbia and one brother, Gibson Bates.
