Cora Amanda Bagaason was the last of Ole and Kari’s twelve children. She was born on the Riceland farm on August 25, 1889. She married Odin E. Moen on June 12, 1917, at Albert Lea. Odin was born April 1, 1890, at Spring Grove in Houston County, Minnesota. He lived in Mountrail County in northwestern North Dakota when he and Cora were granted their marriage license. Cora’s father, Ole Bagaason, died in 1918. The Moens had returned to Riceland and leased the Bagaason farm. As of the 1920 census, Odin and Cora and their two young boys lived there, in addition to Cora’s siblings, Willie, Inga, and Henrietta, and her widowed mother, Kari. On May 6, 1924, Cora gave birth to her third child, a girl. The pregnancy and childbirth appear to have been too difficult for her, because she developed a severe case of anemia. Cora Bagaason Moen died at Riceland on July 9, 1924. She was buried at East Freeborn Lutheran Church Cemetery. Odin took his boys and went back to Houston County. Inga Bagaason vowed to care for the baby, her niece Thelma Mae, until Odin could find another wife. Odin married Viola Alberta Meiner in Houston County, on June 12, 1926. By 1930, Thelma was still with the Bagaasons in Riceland, but she joined her brothers and many step-siblings on Odin’s farm in Black Hammer, Minnesota, during the years of the Great Depression. Odin E. Moen and Viola lived for a period during the 1960s in Brainerd, Minnesota, but he died August 18, 1986, in his home town of Spring Grove, when he was 96 years old.
