Randine Thostine Bagaason was born December 15, 1872, on her parents' farm in Riceland township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. She married Knudt O. Wangen, also a Riceland native, on May 2, 1895, at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. They farmed near his parents’ farm at Riceland until 1903, when they bought a farm at Kensington, in Nora township in Pope County, Minnesota. They had five children, three sons and two daughters. One of their girls, Clara, died in 1902. Randi was a fine homemaker and a loving mother. Diphtheria was a dreaded and often deadly disease in those days. Today, it’s preventable through vaccination. Sadly, it claimed her in the summer of 1905. Randine Bagaason Wangen died far too young, at age 32, on June 25, 1905, near Kensington. Four young children and her husband were left to mourn. Randi was laid to rest at Nora Cemetery. Knudt returned to Riceland, farmed, was a carpenter, and raised his four youngsters. In March 1920, he moved to Manchester township, where he worked for several years on his brother-in-law’s farm. In 1935, his children were adults, so he married Turene Annette Nelson. Knudt O. Wangen, 72, died September 6, 1940, in Manchester. He and Turene, who died in 1960, are buried in Central Freeborn Lutheran Cemetery at Albert Lea.
