Richard Harold Hodge, Sr., 89, of Olathe, KS formerly of Spring Hill, KS passed away Fri., June 16, 2017 at Olathe Hospice House. Funeral service 10:00 am Sat., June 24, 2017 at Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS (913) 592-2244. Burial follows at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 8:30 pm Fri., June 23, 2017 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Hospice House or the Alzheimer’s Assoc. Harold was born April 16, 1928 in Sarcoxie, MO to Jesse Edward and Mary Maude (Foster) Hodge. He lived in Carthage, MO, York, NE, Olathe, KS, Spring Hill, KS and Gardner, KS. He moved to the Olathe area in 1953 where he was employed by Delco Battery for 42 years. He married Nira J. Thompson on March 6, 1948. They were married for 51 years. After her death Harold married Myra J. Henderson (Hon) on June 22, 2003 in Olathe, KS. He was a member of Ochletree Baptist Church, Spring Hill, KS. Harold enjoyed camping with the Good Sam camping club and bowling with WY-JON Bowling Assoc. He will be missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard “Rick” H. Hodge, Jr., his first wife, Nira J. Hodge; second wife, Myra in 2007; son-in-law Melvin Filkins; brother, Virgil F. Hodge; sisters: Nadine Ward, Faynell Geisel, Opal Taylor, Peggy L. Hodge, Lenora Lavon Jacobsen, Viola Maxine Dunker and four infants; grandson, Eric Hodge; grandsons-in-law: Joel Weber and Jerry Greenwell and close friend, Dee Hamblin. Harold is survived by daughters: Kathy Filkins-Zander (John), Gardner, KS and Carol Richey (Mike), Linn Valley Lake, KS; sons: Jerome Hodge (Teresa), Gardner, KS and Jeff Hodge (Kim), Georgetown, TX; step-children: Jack (Kathy) Ables, Gary (Marlene) Ables, Neal (Terri) Ables and Joseph Hunsperger, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and sister, Hazel Griffith, Carthage, MO.
