Mrs. Alice O."Dessie" Gideon, of Sparta, died Friday, October 13, at the age 68. Funeral services were held Sunday morning in the Fairview Church with the Rev. Roy Shipman officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Chaffin Funeral Home. Alice O. Dessie Billingsley was born January 24, 1882. At the age of 17 she was married to William Preston Gideon. To them eleven children were born. Her husband and three children preceded her in death. Survivors include eight children, Rex of Reeds Spring, and Eldo, Leonard, Lester, Jack, Maudie McTeer, Opal Roberts, and Marie Davis, all of Sparta; 50 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one stepson, one step-daughter, and two sisters, Mrs. Golda Lewis of Carthage and Mrs. Violet Kelley of Claremore, Oklahoma.
