LEXINGTON – Randall Stewart Jenkins was born September 19, 1959 in Huntsville, AL to Ronald H. Jenkins and Georgia N. Jenkins.

He is survived by his sister, Paige O. Jenkins.

Growing up, Randy followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a swimmer and lifeguard. He swam with Gardendale Swim Team, played in a local soccer league, and was on the Irmo High School Wrestling and Football Teams. He was also a weightlifter and bodybuilder and competed in the first ever "Mr. Irmo Bodybuilding Contest." Randy also had artistic talents; ten of his comedic drawings were published in the 1977 Irmo HS yearbook. He graduated Irmo in 1978, and then attended the University of South Carolina, although his studies were interrupted after an automobile accident in 1982. After his recovery, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1984. He was a member of the "Silent Drill Platoon Color Guard" in Bangor, WA. He served in the following Operations: "Sharp Edge" in Monrovia, Liberia, "Provide Comfort" in Turkey and Iraq, and "Deny Flight" in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the course of three Mediterranean deployments aboard the USS Whidbey Island, the USS Guadalcanal and the USS Wasp, respectively, he became a "Shellback," crossing the Equator. Randy was a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, SC with a specialty of Combat Swim Instructor. He was also a Platoon Sergeant at Camp Lejune, NC. He left the Corps in 1997, after which he returned to Columbia, SC and finished his BS in Criminal Justice at USC (1998). In 1997 he enlisted in the South Carolina Army National Guard with the "Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit." He retired from the Army in 2006 as a Master Sergeant.

After he retired from the military, Randy was Logistics Coordinator at South Carolina Emergency Management Division. He was an athlete, artist, adventurer, and always a comic. His sense of humor ranged from slapstick to impersonations, and at times outrageous improvisation. He loved to cook - especially bar-b- q, and to investigate new restaurants. He was the "go to" guy for recipes and restaurant recommendations, although his friends and family didn’t have to "go to" him, he simply took us there. He was a man’s man, dutiful to his mother, his friends, his work, and his country. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

A visitation, followed by a memorial service, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Elmwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201. Friends of the family are encouraged and welcome to attend.

Donations in his honor can be made to "The Bridge Home" – a non-profit, public benefit organization that is focused on the journey of emotional healing for woman veterans who have defended our nation in times of war. The Bridge Home P.O. Box 4029 San Rafael, CA 94913
