She was predeceased by her siblings, Montie Burgess, Boyd Neblett, Mary Apetz, and Dorothy Fix, as well as her husband, Ronald H. Jenkins.
She is survived by her son, Randall S. Jenkins, and her daughter, Paige O. Jenkins.
As the child of an Army engineering officer during her childhood, she made new friends over and over again as her family moved throughout the U.S. and Japan. As an adult she postponed her formal education to raise her children, and support her husband while he completed his undergraduate studies and launched his career.
In 1978 she graduated from University of South Carolina, majoring in business while working full time and caring for her children. As a full-time businesswoman in financial services, she began her career as a bond officer at South Carolina National Bank but worked her way up to become the Director of Financial Aid at her Alma Mater, the University of South Carolina.
Georgia loved to dance. She was active, resourceful, and creative; occupying her leisure time with sewing, crafts, needlepoint, vegetable gardening, and swimming. In 1971 she and her husband Ron founded the Gardendale swim team. As she advanced her career she also continued to nurture plants, backyard birds, squirrels, and neighborhood wildlife. After retirement she became a puzzle enthusiast, especially Sudoku.
She cultivated an appreciation for nature, culture, and fitness through their family vacations and family values through their holiday visits with her parents in Huntsville, AL. She always had a dog and showed her children how to love and care for animals. Georgia was generous, honest, hardworking, determined and fun. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
On Saturday, November 5 noon until 2 p.m., Georgia’s children Randy and Paige will be hosting an informal catered gathering to celebrate her life, at her home at 237 Beresford Place, Columbia, SC 29210. Friends of the family and neighbors are encouraged and welcome to attend.
Donations in her honor can be made to "The Bridge Home" a non-profit, public benefit organization that is focused on the journey of emotional healing for woman veterans who have defended our nation in times of war.
The Bridge Home, P.O. Box 4029, San Rafael, CA 94913.
