Donald Eyler Beard, 89, of Hagerstown, Md., went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2017, at North Hampton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick, Md.

Born July 5, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of John Allen and Mary Devona Eyler Beard, who preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Thelma L. (Brewer) Beard; five brothers, William A. Beard, Robert D. Beard, Jack A. Beard, Charles E. Beard and Edwin Beard; and three sisters, Betty Monninger, Mary L. Mullendore and Helen E. Deavers.

Mr. Beard was a retired dairy farmer of 70 years.

He was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Hagerstown.

He played center field in the Washington County Independent Baseball League for several years, setting multiple records.

He is survived by six children, Suzanne Castello and husband, Joel, of Texas, Donnie Beard and wife, Linda, of Boonsboro, Md., Cathy Beard of Boonsboro, A.J. Beard and wife, Kathy, of Hagerstown, Edwin Beard and wife, Lucinda, of Boonsboro, and Julie Hendershot and husband, Alan, of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Florine Foster; two brothers, John Beard of Hagerstown and Larry N. Beard of Boonsboro; and one sister, Joyce D. Miner of Boonsboro.

Funeral services will be private and conducted at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
