Edward Berreth was born September 29, 1917, in Winona Township, Emmons County, rural Linton, North Dakota, the son of Adam and Margaret (Hoff) Berreth. He was reared and educated there attending country school. He then farmed with his father for six years before moving to a farm near Edgeley, North Dakota.
On December 2, 1939, he was united in marriage to Anna Maria (Staudinger) Bender at Linton, North Dakota. In 1966 they moved to Park River where he worked for the Park River School District in bus maintenance and as a bus driver for 27 years. He also managed the Texaco Station during this time and later managed the Standard Station for 13 years. He retired in 1991 from the school district. He was a former member of the Eagles.
Edward is survived by his wife: Anna Maria; daughters: LaDona (Myron) Tarno, Judy Horan and Sherry (Donald) Greicar; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters: Tillie Lahren and Florence Maier; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by stepson, Alvin Bender; his parents; granddaughter, Holly Tarno; grandson, Andrew Greicar; four brothers, and three sisters.
