She was the daughter of the late Orin Bomer Hollis and Mary Elizabeth Alverson Hollis of Union, SC. Mrs. Lewis had been a resident of Wilmington for many years, and was member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. She retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers. She loved music and was an avid reader. She is predeceased by her husband, John David Lewis, Sr. and two sons, John D. Lewis, Jr. and Kenneth D. Lewis. She was 88.
