John R. Diskey, 84, Marion, passed away in his home at 9:31 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. He was born in Marion to Edward and Mary (Haney) Diskey. On September 21, 1974, John married Peggy E. Burke, and she survives.
John retired from Teamster Local 135, where he was a truck driver, as well as owner/operator. He also worked at Soap-n-Suds Car Wash. He was a member of Post 5, American Legion Post 10, and GWRRA, as well as a past member of AMVETS and Eagles.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, playing pool, dancing, and hunting. He will be best remembered for the big heart he had and how he loved to help people, and also for being such a great husband and dad.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Peggy; children, Lotta Diskey Oswalt, Marion, Cindy (Jerry) Tomes, Peru, Darren (April Reeves) Diskey, Marion, and Janet (Tom) Haisley, Marion; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Art (Thresa) Diskey, Gas City, Dave (Pat) Diskey, Marion, Charlie Diskey, Marion, and Pat (Mike) Bowman, Marion; special friend, Tamara Diskey; and his dog, Little Bitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Eddie Saunders and Perry E. Diskey; and several brothers and sisters.
The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
John's funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Converse Cemetery.
