Mrs. Joan Howard Wallace, age 84 of Blairsville, GA passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Clay County Care Center.

Mrs. Wallace was born on May 12, 1933 in Hyannis, MA to the late Roger A. Howard and Anna Wagner Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E Wallace and her daughter, Susan Lee Rines.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally, Sandra and Brenda; ten grandchildren; and the Gary Tompa family of Martin's Creek.

She was a member of the "Striped Feather" Shawnee #1202 Jamestown Society, Old Unicoi Trail DAR; the Mayflower Society; Daughters of the Indian Wars and Colonial Dames. For the DAR, she served as National S>E> Division> Chairman American Indians, State Chairman A.I. and State Registrar.

She graduated from Milford High School in New Hampshire; Nashua Hospital School of Nursing in 1954; attended Rivier College in Nashu; St. Joseph's College, North Windham, ME, and University of Hartford, CT. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for fifty years in NH, CT, RI, OH, and NC mostly in Nursing Management and later as a National Seminar Leader, presenter and an author traveling throughout the US.

She completed artwork and graphed R.I. South Shore Scenes. She also was a multi-media artist in pastels and oil painting; designed and grafted her artwork for needle art, winning first place at National 2005-2006.

Mrs. Wallace was a State DAR American Indian Chairman presenting programs on the Native American culture to 30,000 children and 20,000 adults for over seven years in NC and many other states.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services. You are asked to offer your remembrance in your own way. She will be interred at Old Martin's Creek Cemetery with her husband, Thomas Wallace on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 2 pm. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and V.F.W. Post #6812. .
