Ambrose Schmitz, 81, of Marytown, died Sunday, December 30, at Gran Care Nursing Home, Fond du Lac where he had been a resident for two weeks.

He was born December 7, 1898 at Johnsburg, a son of Matt and Mary Frein Schmitz. He attended St. John the Baptist school at Johnsburg.

On November 4, 1930 he married Esther Andrew at Johnsburg. The couple farmed in the Brothertown area for five years, then in the Marytown area until retiring. Mr. Schmitz was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, Marytown, and its Holy Name Society.

Survivors are his wife; a son, Willard of Plymouth; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Mary Alice) Schleicher of Route 3, Sheboygan Falls, Sister Kathleen Schmitz of the Boyle Home in Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Herbert (Elizabeth) Karls of Chilton; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Simon of Fond du Lac.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters and one grandchild.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Visitation Church by the Rev. John Rausch, pastor. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
