Carolyn Virginia Durrence was born and raised in Evans County, Georgia. She attended Grammer School at Canoochee Grammer School located in the Canoochee District of Evans County, South of the Canoochee River. She attended Claxton High School located in Claxton, Georgia. Carolyn is my first cousin (Carolyn's father and mother, were my uncle Tom and aunt "Dicy" as uncle Tom was my mother's half-brother). Carolyn's family, like my family, lived out in the rural area of Evans County, Georgia and during those years all the roads were dirt and unpaved when she attended school. My oldest brother, James Harold Bowen, used to drive the school bus during the years 1943 to 1945 and I recall when Carolyn and her younger sister and cousins, who lived with her family, would get on and off the school bus during the route to our home. I am 3 years and 3 months older than Carolyn.

This short biography written on May 4, 2017, by William Kenneth Bowen, first cousin of the deceased, Carolyn, and the nephew of Carolyn's father, Thomas H. Durrence (1896 - 1972) (an older half-brother of this writer's mother, Ethel Marguerite Jones Bowen (1908 - 1997).
