Joseph is the son of John Jacob & Elizabeth (Keller) Bowman, II. He was the 8th child of eight children. Him and his siblings: Rebecca [Leinbach], Nancy, Jacob, Henry, Elizabeth, Barbara Ann [Starnes], Samuel, and Joseph Newman. He first married Honour Newman about 1815 in Greene Co., Tennessee. Joseph & Honour had 12 children: Jacob, Elizabeth [Click], Rebecca [Wattenbarger], Cornelius Newman, Mary [Smith], Joseph, Martha [Runnels], Honor [Harvey], John, Samuel, Henry, and Mounce Bird. Then he married Elizabeth Carter on 7 Apr 1846 in Greene Co., Tennessee. Joseph & Elizabeth had 9 children: Barbara, Lydia Ann, Eliza, Nancy Jane, George W., Hannah, Andrew Jackson, Benjamin Flarence and Marion.


Originally buried in the Bowman Cemetery which is now under Beaver Lake. This was one of 23 burials that were re-interred in Union Chapel Cemetery during the mid '60s. Information from Army Corps of Engrs cemetery relocation files in the ACE Real Estate office in Little Rock, AR.
