Funeral services were Friday in Delphi for Ruth C. Cornell, 76, Delphi, who died April 2, 1986, in the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, where she had been a patient a few days.

Cornell was born June 28, 1909, in Decatur County, the daughter of Frank S. and Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey Alexander. A graduate of Central Normal Teachers College, Danville, she was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, the Indiana State Teachers Association and a former member of the Battle Ground OES. A retired elementary teacher, she taught at Battle Ground, in Brookston and in Decatur County. She and her husband resided in Battle Ground prior to moving to Delphi in 1956.

She married J.C. Cornell in Oakwood, Ill., May 2, 1936, and he survives, with a son, Richard L. Cornell, Delphi; two grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Alexander; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Mazel) Bokelman, Greensburg.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Paul Alexander, and a sister, Mrs. Russel (Ethel) Corya.
