Henry's father died when Henry was 1 year old . His mother's second marriage was to Moses Moore (1840-1919). Moses took on the responsibility of being a father to Henry and is the reason why Henry's name is often shown with (Moore) stated as a last name along with Ratliff.
Henry had siblings from both Ratliff and Moore sides of the family.
The 1870 Census shows the family living at Robinson Creek, Pike County, KY. By 1900, Henry & Louvina have 12 Children and are living at Marrowbone, Pike County, KY. The census shows he is engaged in farming. In 1920 6 additional children have joined the family and they are living at Coal River Precinct Pike County KY.
Seven of the children still live at home with Henry and Louvina. Our grandmother Verda Ratliff Jones is one and she is a school teacher.
1940 shows Henry's family much smaller with only a couple of the adult children moving to Greentown Scioto, Ohio with them. He is farming while the others are employed at the steel mill and construction.
Henry died from myocarditis June 29, 1938 and is buried at the Damron Cemetery Harold, Floyd County, KY. His wife, his daughters Molly, Mary E., & Verda and his son Evered are interred beside him & Louvina.
My sister and I have visited their graves on several occasions. The Cemetery is kept up but but they are in a section that has been there for a long time and goes unnoticed. You would never know that part of the Cemetery exists. As long as we can, we will make our trips to pay respects to them.
