A native of Bronx, New York, he retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and also retired from the Virginia Beach Fire Department after 20 years. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the BOMGA and the Virginia Beach Seniors Golf Club. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Kathleen E. Murray. He was also predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Zimba, and a brother, John Murray. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Murray, two daughters, Susan Wilson (Joe) and Kathleen Howard (Matt), three sons, Richard Murray, Michael Murray and John Murray (Sandy), a step-son, Kip Rountree, step-daughter, Heather, a sister, Iris Seymour, twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Vincent, Katie, Jeffrey, Dylan, Laci, Mackenzie, Adam, Nathan, Haley, Christopher and Karissa, a great grandson, John, his mother-in-law, Miriam Kipp, brother-in-law, Barry Kipp (Pat) and many nieces and nephews including Lorraine, Barbara and Doug.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Kempsville Chapel Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
