Catherine was born in Norka Colony in the Volga Region of Saratov Province, Russia. She is the daughter of George and Anna Katharina (Koehler) Ross. She immigrated to the United States with her family aboard the S.S. Weiland on May 22, 1878. She married Johannes Brehm October 19, 1890. Only 2 of their 6 children survived into adulthood.

She is survived by her husband, John Brehm, and two sons. The funeral was held from the Baptist church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Buckner, the pastor, Rev. Richardson being absent from the city.
